Get your Grooms On in the Gables

Comedian Kyle Grooms is in town and performing for one night only at the Open Stage Club this Saturday.

If you've been to one of our shows before but aren't familiar with Kyle Grooms, this event will be a memorable one for you and your guests.

Kyle has traveled the world performing stand up comedy. His talents have brought him many opportunities on television such as Last Comic Standing on NBC and Comedy Central for a half hour show AND Chappelle's Show.

Here is an exclusive Have Nots Comedy interview with Kyle!

1. What is it like for you starting your path as a comedian in a city like Miami? Why did you move to New York?

It was tough love starting in Miami. I had to fight a lot of comedy bullies. Most nights were cool, but it was kill or be killed.

I moved to NY to learn the ways of the Jedi.

2. Being a former full-time comedian in New York, tell us what you notice about the comedy industry in Miami? How would you describe it?

I was surprised to see that Miami has a few comedian-produced rooms that people support, and Louis CK sold out 5 nights at Adrienne Arsht Center. That tells me the city wants comedy - they just need more solid venues. There's a pool of talented, local, up and coming comics who need mentors and a place to grow and learn from the veteran comics that visit the city.

3. How would you describe your comedy style?

My style is laid back. I like to bring the room together, make you laugh and make you think.

4. How do you develop your material?

My material is developed by being in my head all day and talking to myself like rain man usually while cleaning, exercising or smoking on that broccoli.

5. What is the worst experience you've ever had on stage?

Once in Anchorage Alaska, a fight broke out five minutes into my set. I had to switch from comedian to MMA commentator.

6. What is your favorite joke and why?

Richard Pryor said, "White people are easier to brainwash because they're smarter upstairs." I think of this joke every time I hear anti-immigrant, anti-black lives matter, 'this is our country, love it or leave it' rhetoric.

7. If you had one super power what would it be?

If I had a superpower it would be to fly because I love to travel.

8. What can fans expect from you if they come to Saturday night's show in the Gables?

Fans can expect lots of laughter, stress relief, a break from the bullshit going on in the world and a peek at my new hour of material.
